A major milestone was reached last week in the progress of the Newcastle Arena construction project as the concrete for the ice rink was poured and completed on June 29, 2023. This was a 2-day evolution as the floor finishing work continued well after the concrete was poured. The pad is now in the curing stages which will be ongoing for approximately 30 days. The masonry work is complete with the changeroom layouts, and the masonry painting is in progress. Mechanical work will continue in the changerooms and on the refrigeration system as the construction work continues. The project is continuing to proceed on schedule.

We are very pleased with the progress to date of the Newcastle Arena construction project. Good progress has been made over the last few weeks and things are starting to get closed in. The refrigerated floor pad has had the cooling lines and steel grid installed and is almost ready to be poured. The date of the pour is still to be determined as it is a continuous pour and will be a 2-day evolution. Exterior and interior masonry work is ongoing. Mechanical work is ongoing in the washrooms. Painting will be proceeding on the steel beams and interior siding in the not-too-distant future. The project is continuing to proceed on schedule.
Things are progressing well as 90% of the floor has been removed and the construction team has been working on the insulation removal this week. Demo of the rooms and the new plumbing has been installed in the ground and the inspection passed yesterday so they can now begin the concrete work getting the floors back in. The new changerooms have been excavated and the footings poured. The walls are being constructed and ready for pour hopefully by next week. The new sand base for the refrigerated concrete floor should begin next week and the build up on the old floor to the new will be approximately an additional 2-3 inches higher and will eliminate the large lip at the end of the rink exit area.
